RSPB SALTHOLME

Saltholme is an RSPB reserve located just north of Middlesbrough.  Saltholme is a good reserve for spotting Terns, Lapwings, Peregrines, Water Rails & Yellow Wagtails.

ENTRY FEES

£5 per car, but RSPB members get in free. If you are visiting only the cafe and or shop and are staying an hour or less, it is free. Come by bike, public transport or on two feet and it won’t cost you a penny, no matter how long you stay.

DIRECTIONS

Saltholme is 10 minutes from the A19. Turn East off the A19 north of Stockton along the A689. After half a mile, take the A1185; in 4 miles join the A178 at a mini roundabout and take the 3rd exit. The reserve entrance is 250 metres on the right hand side. From Middlesbrough centre, the site can be accessed via the Transporter Bridge, which is 1.5 miles along the A178 at Port Clarence. The Bridge is open from 7am – 7pm Monday to Friday and 9.30am – 3.30pm on Saturdays. It is closed all day Sunday for events and maintenance, but the visitor centre is open. It costs £1.30 each way for cars (contact 01642 247563 to check as weather can affect its normal operation).
